Hope in Caps and Gowns: 17 Incarcerated Men Graduate from Theology Program

Seventeen incarcerated men completed our TUMI theology program, proving it’s never too late for growth, purpose, and hope behind bars.

Last Friday, inside a prison chapel, 17 men walked across a stage and received something most had never held before—a diploma.

Over the last 13 months, these men completed more than 300 hours of theology, leadership, and Bible trainingthrough our TUMI (The Urban Ministry Institute) program. Week after week, they showed up, committed to finishing—memorizing Scripture, taking final exams, and completing ministry projects. They didn’t quit.

For some, it was their first graduation ever. One man, in his 60s, had his family there to witness the moment. You could see it on their faces: this was more than a piece of paper. It was proof that change is possible—that it’s never too late to start something new and finish it.

As each name was called, the room filled with pride, tears, and joy. It didn’t matter how long they’d been inside or how much time they had left. This moment was about legacy—about becoming men who lead, who finish what they start, and who carry the Gospel wherever they go.

This is what hope looks like inside prison walls.
And this is what your support makes possible.
