We’re still in awe of what happened this past month at Dixon Correctional Institute in Louisiana. Over 1,200 men serving long-term or life sentences sat in 95-degree heat for more than six hours, not complaining, not leaving... just hungry to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
And then, something miraculous happened. God showed up!
Hundreds of men rushed the altar. More than 70 were baptized right there in the prison yard. The worship was so loud, so full of life, you could feel it in your chest. Men were crying, hugging, raising their hands in freedom. It was a glimpse of heaven on earth.
At one unforgettable moment, we handed the mic to two inmates to lead their favorite song, “I Trust in God.” The moment they sang, the yard erupted in uncontainable joy. Smiles, laughter, and tears of hope spread everywhere. This is what revival behind bars looks like.
We thought we were there to serve, but the truth is, we were the ones changed. One man told us:
“We’ll sit out here in this heat all day if it means hearing a few minutes of God’s Word.”
That is hunger. That is faith. That is the transformative power of prison ministry and Gospel outreach.
